The surname origin "HERROU" is linked to iron = her in Gascon.  Therefore this surname was attributed has persons working iron (métalliers, sérruriers) and also to the present many iron expressions to the foot of the Pyrenees and in mountain (Ferrières, in the High ones- Pyrenees).  This surname could be spelled Herou, in particular in the Viscountcy of Lavedan (Southwestern Party of the department of the High Pyrenees).
